OXFORD, Ohio ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃÆ'¢'¬" For their performances last week, hockey junior forward Josh Melnick and senior diver Pei Lin are Miami Athletes of the Week for the week of Feb. 19-25.
Melnick was the offensive catalyst for the RedHawks as they took five of six points from North Dakota over the weekend. The junior dished out a pair of assists, including the primary helper on the game-tying goal in Friday's comeback win over UND as MU erased a 3-0 deficit to prevail in overtime. Saturday saw Melnick open the scoring by converting a shorthanded breakaway midway through the second period as Miami posted its first unbeaten conference weekend this season.
This is the first time this season and in second time in his career that Melnick has been named Miami's Male Athlete of the Week. He last won it for the week of Jan. 2-8, 2017.
Lin put up a great performance at the 2018 women's MAC Championships last weekend. She received the MAC award for the Most Outstanding Senior Swimmer/Diver of the Year. Lin was also named MAC Co-Diver of the Year and All-MAC First Team. She broke the meet record in the 3-mtr dive (402.55), a record she set two years ago. Lin's 1-mtr dive score (305.30) was good for second place. Lin qualified for NCAA's in both the 3-mtr and 1-mtr dives.
This is the first time this season and eighth time in her career that Lin has been named Miami's Female Athlete of the Week. She last won it for the week of April 13-19 2017.
The next Miami Athletes of the Week will be announced on Monday, March 5.
