OXFORD, Ohio - Miami University dominated Bowling Green in the teams' second meeting of the season Saturday.
Kendall McCoy led the way with 25 points - 13 of which came in the first quarter of play. Three other `Hawks also hit triple digits:
Lauren Dickerson (17),
Leah Purvis (17), and
Savannah Kluesner (10). The team shot 54.2 percent from the field and 61.9 percent from three.
McCoy caught fire early, scoring eight of Miami's first 10 points. After BG took a quick 5-3 lead to start the game, a layup by Kluesner tied it at 5. In stepped McCoy, who drained a three to give the RedHawks a lead the Falcons would not challenge for the remainder of the day.
The `Hawks increased their lead to 11 in the first frame when Dickerson nailed a 3-pointer to make it 20-9 with 5:25 remaining. Free throws by BG's Haley Puk cut the lead to nine, but Dickerson trotted down and hit a jumper that pushed the lead back to 11.
Under the halfway mark of the first quarter, Purvis hit two foul shots to give Miami a quarter-high lead of 13. The Falcons scored twice more before the end of the quarter, but the `Hawks hit the break leading 30-20.
McCoy picked up right where she left off in quarter two, nailing a three in the first 33 seconds to make it 33-20. Bowling Green chopped the lead back down to single digits for the first time in nearly seven minutes of game clock thanks to jumpers on back-to-back possessions by Caterrion Thompson and Jane Uecker. The `Hawks answered back by going on a 12-1 run over the ensuing four minutes to increase their lead to 20 points. Four minutes later, Dickerson capped off the half with a deep 3-pointer that made it 48-32 as the team's hit the lockers.
The Falcons, who went just 3-for-11 from downtown in the first half and 1-for-6 in the second quarter, emerged from halftime and hit four 3-pointers to bring themselves within 12, but it would not be enough. The RedHawks pushed their lead to 16 before going on a 14-2 run to begin the fourth quarter of play. Now up by 29 with under three minutes to play, Miami emptied the bench.
The RedHawks will travel to Athens to face off with rival Ohio on Feb. 28. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
