AKRON, Ohio - The RedHawk women's basketball team won its fifth straight road outing Wednesday night, topping Akron 77-50 behind 52.6 percent shooting from the floor.

A season-high six RedHawks scored in double figures, headlined by Kayla Brown's 14 points. Kendall McCoy poured in 13, Lauren Dickerson scored 12, Savannah Kluesner and Baleigh Reid contributed 11 and Leah Purvis collected 10.

Miami, who improved to 17-9 (9-6 MAC), led the entirety of the night and the game was tied just once, at 7-7 four minutes in.

Miami got an early jump on the Zips as McCoy and Klueser opened the contest with a three-pointer and a layup, respectively. Akron got its offense going over the next few minutes and a Destiny Perkins layup had the Zips within two at 11-9 with 4:41 to play in the opening frame. However, the 'Hawks closed the period on a 6-2 run to claim a 19-11 advantage after 10 minutes. MU had six different scorers in the quarter.

The second quarter saw the Red & White hold the Zips to just nine points while they poured in 15, led by Brown's six. It had Miami holding a comfortable 34-20 lead as the teams entered the locker room.

Akron stabilized and hung around in the early moments of the second half, but by third quarter's end, Miami had a 20-point margin as it was ahead 57-37.

The RedHawks emptied their bench in the fourth but remained in control and got the lead up to a game-high 29 with just under a minute to go. The victory is Miami's fourth by 20 or more points this season and it's tied for the second-highest margin of victory this year. The 'Hawks beat Florida A&M by 40 back on Dec. 21.

Miami is back home Saturday to host Bowling Green at 2 p.m.
