COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃÆ'¢'¬" Fourteen members of the Miami hockey team were recognized for their diligence in the classroom by landing on the National Collegiate Hockey Conference's Academic All-Conference Team on Wednesday.

Representing the Red & White on the league's all-academic team are Alex Alger (Livonia, Mich./Johnstown (NAHL)), Karch Bachman (Wolcottville, Ind./Chicago (USHL)), Gordie Green (Ann Arbor, Mich./Dubuque (USHL)), Bryce Hatten (Granger, Ind./Cedar Rapids (USHL)), Ryan Larkin (Clarkston, Mich./Cedar Rapids (USHL)), Zach LaValle (Oakdale, Minn./Janesville (NAHL)), Conor Lemirande (Janesville, Wis./Youngstown (USHL)), Evan McCarthy (Castle Rock, Colo./Walpole (EHL)), Josh Melnick (Annandale, N.J./Youngstown (USHL)), Carson Meyer (Powell, Ohio/Tri-City (USHL)), Christian Mohs (Andover, Minn./Minot (NAHL)), Chase Munroe (Naperville, Ill./Minnesota (NAHL)), Kiefer Sherwood (New Albany, Ohio/Youngstown (USHL)) and Ryan Siroky (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Bloomington (USHL)). In addition to earning academic all-conference honors, both Alger and Bachman garnered NCHC Scholar Athlete Team status.

Among the 111 NCHC Academic All-Conference Team members, five schools placed at least 14 student-athletes on the team, led again by Omaha with 20 representatives. Colorado College was second among the NCHC teams with 17 honorees, despite having no seniors on its roster, while Western Michigan (16), North Dakota (15) and Miami (14) rounded out the top five for most Academic All-Conference Team members.

While freshmen are not currently eligible for the NCHC Academic All-Conference Team or Distinguished Scholar-Athlete recognition, those freshmen that achieve a cumulative 3.0 GPA or better at the conclusion of the 2017-18 academic year, will be added to the Academic All-Conference Team by the NCHC over the summer. Similarly, any freshmen who compile a 3.5 GPA or better will be named an NCHC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete.

The 2017-18 NCHC Senior Scholar-Athlete Award will be announced at the NCHC Awards Celebration on Thursday, March 15 in Saint Paul, Minn. on the eve of the NCHC Frozen Faceoff.
