OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami University basketball team returns home on Saturday as it welcomes Purdue Fort Wayne to Millett Hall for the second consecutive season. Tip time is 2 p.m. and it will air live on ESPN+. An audio broadcast will be available on Miami College Sports Live from IMG College.
COLEMAN-LANDS AT THE BUZZER: The RedHawks are coming off a dramatic 65-62 win over Wright State on the road last Wednesday. It was highlighted by a buzzer-beating three-pointer from sophomore guard
Isaiah Coleman-Lands off an assist from senior guard
Darrian Ringo. It was Coleman-Lands second game back after missing the first seven games due to injury. ESPN ranked it third on its daily SportsCenter top 10 plays list. This was Miami's first game-winning bucket with less than a second to go since Ringo drained a triple to finish off a 76-73 double-overtime win over Western Illinois on Dec. 2, 2017.
BOWMAN CONTINUES TO GET BETTER: Junior forward
Bam Bowman's performance against the Raiders was key to earning the victory. He finished with 18 points and 7-for-12 shooting, including 3-for-4 from behind the arc. He also had seven rebounds, including four offensive. Bowman is now third on the RedHawks averaging 10.5 points per game.
ABOUT PURDUE FORT WAYNE: Having undergone a name change, the school formerly known as IPFW is 6-5 on the season. The Mastodons have won three of their past four games. That includes a 68-65 victory over Akron in their last action on Wednesday. Purdue Fort Wayne is a high-scoring team that averages 81.8 points per game. It makes 10.6 three-pointers per contest, including a season-high of 21 in a 104-60 win at Eastern Illinois on Nov. 28. The Mastodons are led by redshirt senior guard John Konchar. He averages 16.1 points and 5.1 assists per game, and is one of the top rebounding guards in the nation averaging 8.9 caroms per contest.
THE SERIES WITH PURDUE FORT WAYNE: Purdue Fort Wayne leads the all-time series with Miami, 4-3. This is the seventh consecutive season the two teams have met. Last year on Dec. 9, 2017 in Oxford, the RedHawks drained 14 three-points on the way to an 81-73 victory.
Jake Wright hit seven of them to lead Miami with 22 points.Â
Dalonte Brown scored 17, while
Nike Sibande contributed 16 for the 'Hawks.
Darrian Ringo had 11 assists in the contest.
MIAMI VS. SUMMIT LEAGUE: The Summit League has undergone significant changes over the past few years. The current makeup of the league features a hodgepodge of nine schools located throughout the middle of the country. Miami has only faced three of the current Summit League schools all-time, holding a 7-4 record against them. In addition to their 3-4 record against Fort Wayne, the RedHawks are 1-0 vs. Denver, 1-0 vs. North Dakota State and 2-0 vs. Western Illinois. Miami has never faced North Dakota, Omaha, Oral Roberts, South Dakota or South Dakota State.
UP AHEAD: The RedHawks will be off for the next week due to final exams. Miami returns to action on Sunday, Dec. 16 when it travels to Northern Kentucky for a 7 p.m. tip. The game will air on Fox Sports Ohio. It will also be broadcast on ESPN3, but will be blacked out in the Fox Sports Ohio viewing area.
