OXFORD, Ohio – The Miami University women's basketball team (9-2) put together a dominating performance against Ohio Dominican (6-6) on Saturday, winning by a 74-29 margin to conclude non-conference play. Allowing only 29 points ties the all-time low in Miami program history while the 74 points scored is the second-highest total of the season.
The RedHawks continued to show scoring depth as nine different players scored points against the Panthers.
Kelly McLaughlin had a career-high six points while
Baleigh Reid had a season-high nine points. McLaughlin also had a career-high five rebounds.
Abbey Hoff tied a career-high seven rebounds and two steals. Reid tied a career-high three steals and two blocks.
Kenzie Schmitz tied her career-highs in points and steals.
Kendall McCoy,
Lauren Dickerson and
Leah Purvis all scored in double figures, finishing with 14, 13 and 12 points, respectively. Reid and Hoff led the team with seven rebounds apiece. Dickerson and Purvis each had four assists.
Purvis started the game off with a three-point shot on the first possession.
Miami increased its lead to 9-4 with baskets from
Savannah Kluesner and
Kendall McCoy before Kluesner made it a 12-4 game by completing a three-point play with 5:59 to play in the first quarter.
The RedHawks outscored the Panthers 12-4 to finish the first quarter with a 24-8 lead. Purvis scored at the basket after getting her own rebound.
Kluesner and McCoy scored the first two buckets of the second quarter. McCoy's was her second three-pointer of the game.
Miami increased its lead to 31-14 midway through the second quarter before
Baleigh Reid stole the ball and drove down the court for two on a fast break.
The RedHawks defense held ODU off of the scoreboard for the last 3:28 of the half while scoring seven points to take a 40-16 lead into the locker room after 20 minutes of play.
Miami held Ohio Dominican scoreless for 11:45, stretching from 9:25 to play in the third quarter until 7:41 to play in the fourth quarter, going on a 22-0 run during that time. Dickerson picked up the pace, scoring 11 of her points in the third quarter.
At the end of the third quarter, Miami held a 62-18 lead over Ohio Dominican.
The two teams traded baskets for the first half of the fourth quarter, including one from Hoff off of the steal.
The RedHawks finished the game with an 8-4 run to cap scoring at 74-29.
Miami starts conference play at Northern Illinois on Saturday, Jan. 5. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET.
