
Miami Beats Jacksonville State With Monstrous First Quarter

The RedHawks outscored the Gamecocks 22-2 in the first 10 minutes.
Kluesner, McCoy and Dickerson all made shots in the first two minutes of the game to give Miami an early 7-0 lead with Dickerson's shot being a three-pointer.

McCoy and Dickerson each followed up with a shot from behind the arc to increase the RedHawks' lead to 13-0 with less than five minutes to play in the first quarter.

Kristen Levering made back-to-back layups before Dickerson sunk her third long-range shot of the quarter. Kluesner gave the 'Hawks a 22-0 lead with one minute to play in the first quarter before Jacksonville got on the board. Miami led 22-2 after 10 minutes of play, shooting 56 percent from the floor and limiting JSU to shooting just six percent.
After the first quarter, the game settled down for the RedHawks offense. Jacksonville State put together a 7-0 run to begin the second quarter before Miami responded with back-to-back baskets – one from Kluesner and one from McCoy.
The RedHawks' defense held the Gamecocks' offense to without a three-pointer for over 15 minutes of play before the Gamecocks put one down with 4:17 to play in the second quarter. That would be the only three-point shot Miami would give up during the entire game. The RedHawks, on the other hand, made eight from behind the arc, including three from the hands of McCoy.

Miami took a 30-14 lead into the locker room after 20 minutes of play.
Dickerson made Miami's first two buckets of the second half to prompt Jacksonville State to take a timeout with 8:14 to play in the third quarter and a 34-16 Miami lead. JSU answered with five-straight points following the timeout before Kluesner and McCoy responded with shots – McCoy's another three-pointer.

Dickerson closed the third quarter with four more points for the RedHawks. Miami led 43-29 after three quarters of play.
The teams scored a basket each but Dickerson scored back-to-back to reach the 20-point mark for the second time this season and 30th time in her career.
On the other end of the court, the RedHawks were tight on defense to minimize the time and space Jacksonville State had to make plays. Miami's defense forced 15 turnovers and made three blocks, including one from Baleigh Reid.

Jacksonville State went on a 6-0 run midway through the fourth quarter to cut the RedHawks' lead to 12 points. Miami then answered with nine-straight points, including another three-pointer from Dickerson.

JSU made the final two baskets of the game as Miami came away with the 58-41 victory.
The RedHawks wrap up conference play on Saturday, Dec. 29 against Ohio Dominican in Millett Hall. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
