RedHawks Conclude Impressive Opening Weekend

Both teams debuted their free skates to vastly improved season opening scores.
MENTOR, Ohio – One meet does not a season make, but the Miami synchronized skating program's opening weekend performance at the Diamond Classic yielded encouraging results.
Both the senior and collegiate teams received their first free skate scores of the season and put up scores well ahead of the RedHawks' season debut at this meet a year ago.
The senior team concluded an impressive opening weekend by showcasing their Tango-themed free skate. In their second big debut of the weekend, the RedHawks put together a mostly clean skate and posted a 106.19. Like Friday's short program, that score bested all but two of the Red & White's performances from last season as they finished the weekend with a combined score of 166.07, which was topped only by the RedHawks' performance at the US National Championships from a year ago.
For the collegiate team, its Glam-themed free skate scored a 73.67, which marked a nearly 14-point improvement from its performance at this meet a year ago and would have ranked fourth among last season's competition schedule.
"This was a great start," head coach Carla DeGirolamo said. "Both teams skated their programs well for the first time. We have a lot of room to grow still and I'm excited to see where we take it from here. Both of them had good speed and flow today. They skated strong and aggressive programs. We don't always see that the first time out. That was exciting to see that they felt confident and ready to go for it."
The RedHawks' senior program is back in action next weekend when it heads to Anaheim
