Miami Powers Past High Point With 68-55 Victory

Nia Clark scored a career-best 15 in her first career start.
OXFORD, Ohio – The Miami University women's basketball team (4-0) beat High Point (1-3) on Tuesday by a 68-55 margin. The RedHawks are off to the best start in program history, breaking the previous record of three wins to start the season.
Both teams played a physical game from the start, with three lead changes and one tie happening in the first three minutes of the game. Lauren Dickerson sunk one from behind the arc that gave Miami the lead, one that would not be relinguished again until the third quarter.

The Red and White led 10-7 at the first media timeout and 19-15 at the end of the first quarter. Six different players recorded points in the first 10 minutes of play.
Miami tacked on a pair of field goals and another shot from Dickerson to earn a seven-point lead, the largest lead of the game thus far, with eight minutes to play in the first half.

High Point put together a 7-0 run midway through the second quarter to tie the game at 26 points. The Panthers tied the game again at 28 points.
Miami's roster combined for 10 steals during the game as it consistently put pressure on High Point. Nia Clark and Dickerson had four steals each.

Dickerson capped the RedHawks' first half scoring with a jumper and two free throws, giving her 12 points in the first half. Miami led by a 32-30 margin after 20 minutes of play.
The Panthers made back-to-back baskets to begin the second half and take a 34-32 lead. The teams were tied twice in the first 1:30 of play in the second half before Dickerson claimed the lead for Miami with her third three-pointer of the day. Dickerson's shot began a 7-0 run by Miami over the next minute of play. This time the RedHawks held onto the lead for the remainder of the game.
Miami led 48-42 at the media timeout with 4:02 left in the third quarter. The RedHawks kept the pressure on in order to increase its lead to 56-47 at the end of the third quarter. Kluesner and Clark both hit double digits before the 30-minute mark.
The Red and White put up 14 points on fast breaks, including this half-court pass from Dickerson to Clark for a layup in the fourth quarter.

Miami took its largest lead of the game with 5:36 left to play. Leah Purvis capped the scoring at 68-55 in favor of the RedHawks.
Clark scored a career-high 15 points in her first career start. Kluesner registered her first double-double of the season, getting 14 points and 11 rebounds. Kluesner and McCoy led the team with 11 rebounds each. Dickerson led the team with 16 points.
Miami travels to Louisville for a game on Monday, Nov. 26. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
