RedHawk student-athletes graduated at a 91 percent rate for the second-straight year.
OXFORD, Ohio – For the second consecutive year, Miami University student-athletes posted an impressive 91 percent Graduation Success Rate in 2017-18.
This marks the first time that Miami's student-athletes have had a GSR above 90 percent for two-straight years.
"With a second consecutive year above 90 percent, our GSR is yet another indicator of the excellence of Miami student-athletes as well as the incredible support our academic support staff," Associate Athletic Director for Academics and Compliance Brad Corbin said. "To consistently graduate student-athletes at this rate is a testament to our Graduating Champions philosophy."
Miami's 91 GSR score tied Bowling Green and Toledo for the best in the Mid-American Conference. Four teams (softball, women's swimming & diving, tennis and volleyball) recorded a perfect 100 GSR while soccer (96), baseball (95), field hockey (94), women's basketball (93) and women's track & field/cross country (90) all scored 90 or higher.
"In addition to reflecting our student athletes' hard work and dedication, these outstanding GSR rates are a reminder of how fortunate we are to have faculty members who support our student athletes inside and outside of the classroom," Director of Academic Support Services Nancy Stewart said.
The NCAA Graduation Success Rate (GSR) is designed to show the proportion of student-athletes on any given team who earn a college degree. It reflects a new set of academic standards that seeks to hold teams and institutions accountable for how well a student-athlete progresses toward a degree.
The GSR was developed in response to colleges and universities who asked for an alternative rate that more accurately reflects the movement among college student-athletes. The GSR takes into account incoming transfers who graduate from a different institution than the one they started at and transfers who leave an institution in good standing.
Miami's GSR score adds another notch to what was a banner 2017-18 for its student-athletes. Over the summer, Miami received its first Cartwright Award from the MAC for excellence in academics, athletics and citizenship.
