YPSILANTI, Mich. – A 45th-minute goal by Eastern Michigan put the Miami soccer team into a deficit it could not answer in a 3-0 loss on Thursday.
The loss eliminates Miami (3-12-1, 1-8 Mid-American) from qualifying for next week's MAC Tournament.
Both teams played pretty close to the vest for most of the first half as they combined for just six total shot attempts (4-2 Eastern Michigan) in the first 35 minutes of play. The RedHawks had a glorious chance to get on the board late in the opening frame when a
Lyda Bogdanovitch header eluded Mabel Dunn, but went off the crossbar. While the rebound came back to Bogdanovitch, her follow up was corralled by Dunn.
The Eagles (9-9, 4-5 MAC) finished the half with a 10-5 shot advantage and got on the board with 38 seconds left until the break when Sabrina McNeill finished a play to hand them the lead at halftime.
Miami put on some pressure early in the second half as it vied for an equalizer tally. Following a period of sustained MU attack, EMU was the only to capitalize as Mia Colavito scored on a rebound in the 70th minute to make it a 2-0 contest. Kristin Nason would then cap the scoring at 3-0 by converting a header with 9:40 to go.
Eastern Michigan outshot Miami 24-13 for the day as
Lauren Parker made seven saves in goal while Dunn finished with six stops.
Miami wraps up its weekend at Central Michigan on Sunday at 1 p.m.
