MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Miami soccer team held Central Michigan scoreless for over 66 minutes, a pair of late goals sent the Red & White (3-13-1, 1-9 Mid-American) to a 2-0 loss on Sunday.
Central Michigan put up all of the shots (7-0) and corner kicks (3-0) of the first half, but none of the shot attempts were on target as the teams remained scoreless at the break.
The Red & White generated some more chances in the second half. Miami got its first corner kick try of the day in the 61st minute, which led to a bid for
Soph Spinell that went wide. In the 67th minute,
Lyda Bogdanovitch got a foot on a loose ball in the box, but the shot couldn't find a way through traffic and deflected away.
CMU got on the board in the 68th minute when Madison Costner lofted a shot from outside the box that dropped into the top part of the net to make it a 1-0 match. The Chippewas then added an insurance goal from Abby Willerer with 9:22 left in regulation to close out the contest.
Central Michigan outshot Miami 15-5 on the day while also ending up with a 5-1 lead in corner kicks.
Lauren Parker made three saves for the RedHawks while Morgan Brittain stopped one shot for the Chippewas.
Miami concludes its 2018 season when it heads to Ball State on Thursday at 3 p.m.
