Hockey
Last Week: Miami (9-9-2, 4-5-1-0 NCHC) resumed its regular season with a home series against defending national champion Denver (ranked No. 4/5 nationally). On Friday night, the RedHawks rode 44 saves from Ryan Larkin and a three-point performance from Casey Gilling to post a 4-3 victory over the Pioneers (Recap). Saturday saw DU score 50 seconds in and take a 2-0 lead through two periods as it held off a furious third period rally that saw MU play 8:22 with an extra skater to post a 4-1 win (Recap). This Week: The RedHawks go on the road for an NCHC series at Omaha. Puck drops in Friday's series opener at 8:07 p.m. ET.
Synchronized Skating
Last Week: In its return from the holiday break, the senior team went Germany for the Cup of Berlin. Friday saw the RedHawks post their second best score in their short program this season, which put them in second place in the standings after day one (Recap). On Saturday, Miami posted its top free skate of the season, the third best total of the meet to claim bronze in the final standings (Recap). This Week: The collegiate team returns to action with the Illinois Synchronized competition this weekend.
Men's Basketball
Last Week: Miami (8-7 overall, 1-1 MAC) opened up Mid-American Conference play with a split last week. The RedHawks got contributions from everyone on the floor, while a monster game from freshman forward and Toledo native Dalonte Brown helped lead them to a 77-72 victory over Bowling Green in their Mid-American Conference opener on Tuesday. Brown finished with 16 points and 17 rebounds in the victory. (Recap) Following a blistering opening half, the Miami was unable to overcome a pair of prolonged scoring droughts, dropping a 67-62 result to Western Michigan University Saturday afternoon at Millett Hall. Junior guard Darrian Ringo had a double-double with 14 points and 11 assists (Recap). This Week: A pair of MAC contest await the RedHawks this week. On Tuesday, Miami hosts Kent State for a 7 p.m. tip. The Red and White then make the long trip to Buffalo Saturday for a 2 p.m. game. Both contests will air live on ESPN3.
Women's Basketball
Last Week: The RedHawks (9-5, 1-2 MAC) dropped a pair of contests this past week, first at Ball State on Wednesday. The Cardinals scored the first 10 points of the game and never looked back en route to an 86-61 win. Lauren Dickerson finished with a team-high 15 points while Kendall McCoy chipped in 13 points off of the bench. The loss snapped Miami's win streak at seven games (Recap). On Saturday, despite having five scorers in double figures, the Red & White dropped their first game at home this season to Central Michigan, 84-66. McCoy tied her season-high with 18 points. Dickerson finished with 13 points to go with eight assists (Recap). This Week: Miami makes the trek to Buffalo for a 7 p.m. tip on Wednesday before returning home to host Eastern Michigan on Saturday at 2 p.m. It will be Alumnae Day for the team. Special recognition is set to be given to the 2008 MAC Championship team at the game.
