HAMILTON, Ohio -- The Miami University women's tennis team overcame an early deficit to defeat the University of Dayton 5-2 Sunday at Riverside Athletic Club. The RedHawks improve to 2-1 on the season, while Dayton is 0-3.
After using a doubles sweep to propel them to victory on Friday against Wright State, the `Hawks wouldn't be able to find the same success again. Dayton earned the match's first point by winning two quick doubles matches on the first and second courts.
Dayton would open the singles session with another quick victory, but after that it would be all Miami. Freshman Melati Devi was the first to put her name in the win column, taking down Dayton's Natalie Allen 6-2, 6-2. Milana Lysova followed, making quick work of her opponent on court 3 in a 6-1, 6-3 win. Junior Emily Struble was another early winner, taking down Dayton's Pleiman 7-5, 6-2.
With those matches in the books, Miami would only need one victory out of the two matches still in progress and would end up taking both. After a tough first set loss and going down 4-2 in set 3, senior Nelli Ponomareva stormed back for a close win at first singles. Finishing at nearly the same time was freshman Priyana Kalita, who dominated the final frame for a 6-2, 1-6, 6-0 victory, sealing the 5-2 win for the RedHawks.

The Red and White will look to continue their winning ways Friday when they head to Cincinnati to take on the rival Bearcats. The match is slated for a 5 p.m. start.
