OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami University men's basketball team continues its rivalry with Ball State as it welcomes the Cardinals to Millett Hall for a Saturday matinÃÆ'Æ'©e. Game time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. and it will air live on ESPN3.
RINGO CRACKS TOP 10 SINGLE SEASON ASSISTS: With six assists against Bowling Green on Tuesday, junior guard Darrian Ringo now has 141 assists on the season. Despite being only 17 games into the year, that mark has already cracked the Miami single-season top-10 list as the eighth-most assists in a season. Ed Schilling holds the top-two single-season assist marks at Miami, recording 214 in 1985 and 203 in 1987.
ADAWAY HEATING UP: Freshman guard Jalen Adaway has recovered from his recent injury and is beginning to contribute again to the RedHawks' offensive attack. He finished with 17 points against Bowling Green on Tuesday, his second-highest scoring total of the season. It was the second consecutive game and ninth time this year that Adaway has scored in double figures. He is Miami's third leading scorer at 9.8 points per game.
RINGO NATIONAL RANKINGS WATCH: Junior guard Darrian Ringo currently ranks fourth in the nation with 141 total assists while his 7.8 assists per game average ranks third. Ringo is 10th in the country with 46 total steals. His 2.56 steals per game average ranks eighth.
ABOUT BALL STATE: The Cardinals have been strong this season, holding a 12-6 overall record and a 3-2 mark in the MAC. They have the league's signature win this year when they upset then eighth-ranked Notre Dame, 80-77, in South Bend on Dec. 5. In its last game, Ball State defeated Central Michigan, 82-76, at home on Tuesday. The Cardinals have been led by junior guard Taylor Persons. He is averaging 14.2 points per game and is hitting 50.5 percent of his shots. Also averaging in double figures is sophomore forward Kyle Mallers. He is scoring 10.6 points per game.
THE SERIES WITH BALL STATE: The RedHawks hold an 62-40 lead in the all-time series. Ball State won the only meeting last season, 85-74, in Muncie on Jan. 10, 2017. The Cardinals used a run late in the first half to build the final scoring margin. Michael Weathers led Miami with 22 points, while Logan McLane had 12 points and seven rebounds for the 'Hawks.
UP AHEAD: The RedHawks hit their road for their only trip during this current homestand. Miami travels to Central Michigan on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. tip. That game will air live on ESPN3. The Red and White return home Saturday, Jan. 27 when they take on Eastern Michigan at 3:30 p.m. That is part of a doubleheader that will see the women's basketball team face Ohio at 1 p.m.
