
Miami Drops 3-1 Contest Against No. 16 Boston

OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami University field hockey team played well against No. 16 Boston for the majority of the game, but a flurry of three Terrier goals gave Boston a 3-1 win. The RedHawks drop to 2-2 on the season and the Terriers improve to 4-0.
"I think we can be happy in terms of good hockey, good effort, good attitude," said head coach Inako Puzo. "They play as a team and they play for each other. We knew it was going to be a very competitive game."
Miami led the contest in shots attempted 15-12. Boston led the game in penalty corners 9-5.
The match remained scoreless until the 45th minute of play when Paula Portugal netted her fourth goal of the season on a penalty stroke.
The score remained 1-0 until the 51st minute of play when Miya Denison netted her third goal of the season. Denison tipped in her goal off of a pass from Kali Shumock.
During the 54th minute, Allie Doggett put the Terriers in the lead with her first goal of the season. Doggett tipped the ball in off of a shot from Kiley Gallagher.
Denison scored her second goal of the afternoon and fourth of the season during the 59th minute of play. Denison netted the final goal of the game off of a pass from Kara Enoch.
"I think we did a lot of things well," said junior back/midfielder Avery Sturm. "Our possession was really good today and we took advantage of our possession."
Portugal led both teams with six shots. Nine RedHawks players took shots. Maddie Passarella made two saves in goal today.
Miami returns to action as it hosts Ohio State on Friday at 2 p.m.
