OXFORD, Ohio ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃÆ'¢'¬" For their performances last week, senior golfer Patrick Flavin and volleyball right side hitter Katie Tomasic are Miami Athletes of the Week for the week of Sept. 4-10.
Flavin opened the season by winning his fifth career collegiate event. He shot rounds of 70-72-69 to finish the Wolf Run Intercollegiate at two-under par. He helped the RedHawks to a second place finish as a team at the tournament.
This is the first time this season and eighth time in his career that Flavin has been named Miami's Male Athlete of the Week. He last won it for the week of April 24-30, 2017.
Tomasic was named Tournament MVP as she led Miami to a tournament championship at the Carolina Classic. For the week she averaged 2.44 kills per set and 0.61 blocks per set. She had a .340 attack percentage from the right side. Against Dayton earlier in the week, Tomasic recorded 12 kills and seven blocks (one solo and six assisted). After starting out the Carolina Classic with eight kills against Radford and nine kills in win over host South Carolina, she had 15 kills and three block assists to lead Miami to a come from behind victory over Eastern Kentucky.
This is the first time this season and third time in her career that Tomasic has been named Miami's Female Athlete of the Week. She last won it for the week of Sept. 5-11, 2016.
The next Miami Athletes of the Week will be announced on Monday, Sept. 18.
