Ten RedHawks Added to NCHC Academic All-Conference Team

July 5, 2017

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Ten more members of the 2016-17 Miami hockey team drew recognition for their hard work in the classroom as the National Collegiate Hockey Conference added them to its Academic All-Conference Team on Wednesday.

The original announcement back in February saw 11 RedHawks land on the postseason all-academic team and Wednesday's announcement updates the number of recipients to include all freshmen who completed their first academic year at their respective institutions.

Miami's newest members of the team from last season's group of freshmen include Alex Alger (Livonia, Mich./Johnstown (NAHL)), Karch Bachman (Wolcottville, Ind./Cedar Rapids (USHL)), Grant Frederic (St. Louis, Mo./Green Bay (USHL)), Gordie Green (Ann Arbor, Mich./Dubuque (USHL)), Bryce Hatten (Granger, Ind./Cedar Rapids (USHL)), Carter Johnson (Gimli, Manitoba/Corpus Christi (NAHL)), Ryan Larkin (Clarkston, Mich./Cedar Rapids (USHL)), Andrew Masters (Kitchener, Ontario/Georgetown (OJHL)), Carson Meyer (Powell, Ohio/Tri-City (USHL)) and Christian Mohs (Andover, Minn./Minot (NAHL)). Of those 10 players, Alger, Bachman, Hatten, Masters and Mohs were also placed on the NCHC Scholar Athlete Team.

To be eligible for the NCHC Academic All-Conference Team, a student-athlete must compile a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average (or better) and have completed a full academic year at their current institution. Similarly, for the NCHC Scholar-Athlete Team, a student-athlete must attain a 3.5 cumulative GPA or better with a full year of academic studies. Freshmen and first-year transfers were not eligible when the honors were first announced in February as they had not completed a full academic year, but with the 2016-17 academic calendar complete, the rising sophomores are now eligible to earn NCHC academic honors. Athletic success and playing time are not criteria for these awards.
