Track & Field
Last Week: Miami spent the weekend in Kalamazoo, Mich. for the MAC Outdoor Championships with both the men and women finishing fifth in the final standings. Thursday saw both Martha Szekely and Danielle Collier claim individual MAC titles in the hammer throw and javelin, respectively, while Ben Metzger captured bronze in the 10,000m as the women ended the day in second with the men in fifth. (RECAP) On the next day, Amelia Strickler set a new school record in the shot put and Arionna Darling also added some big points in the same event while several RedHawks punched their tickets to finals berths after strong showings in their prelims. (RECAP) The Red & White captured two more individual titles in Saturday's finale as Alexus Jimson-Miller capped a strong weekend by breaking a school and MAC meet record to claim the 100m hurdles and clinch a spot in the NCAA East Region Preliminary meet while Stephen Biebelhausen claimed the 1500m crown on the men's side to highlight a big weekend for the program. Olivia Bechtel and Sean Torpy were both named MAC Freshman of the Year for their performances, which helped Miami's men post its second-straight fifth-place finish while the women's fifth-place showing was their best since 2013. (RECAP) This Week: The bulk of the RedHawks saw their seasons come to a close, but at least nine are positioned to compete in the NCAA East Region Preliminary Meet that runs May 25-27 in Lexington, Ky. Announcements of the field will be made this week.
Baseball
Last Week: Miami (21-32, 7-14 MAC) hit the road for Kent State this past weekend to take on the conference-leading Golden Flashes. Friday's contest was a low-scoring affair with KSU taking a 2-1 victory over the RedHawks in a pitchers' duel (RECAP). Four runs for the Golden Flashes in the first inning of Saturday's contest proved too much to overcome as the Miami offense continued its struggle, falling to KSU, 5-1 (RECAP). Sunday saw Miami salvage a victory to keep its MAC Tournament hopes alive. A pinch-hit RBI single in the eighth by Grant Hartwig gave the Red & White the go-ahead run en route to a 2-1 win (RECAP) This Week: Miami closes its regular season this coming weekend when it hosts Northern Illinois for a three-game series at McKie Field. The action gets underway on Thursday with a 4 p.m. first pitch.
Golf
Last Week: Miami was idle. This Week: Junior Patrick Flavin makes his third straight NCAA Regional appearance when he competes in the West Lafayette Regional, May 15-17.
