KENT, Ohio - The Miami offense continued its struggle of late, falling to Kent State in a 5-1 decision on Saturday at Schoonover Stadium.
The Golden Flashes (33-13, 17-3 MAC) grabbed an early stranglehold of the contest with five runs in the first two frames, four in the first and one in the second.
Miami got on the board in the third, taking advantage of a Kent State error. J.T. Stone ripped a one-out double off of the right field wall before an error on a Dallas Hall ground ball to the left side allowed Stone to score and cut the KSU lead to 5-1. Like Friday's contest, it would be the only run the 'Hawks could push across as the offense came up short in its efforts.
RedHawk relief pitcher Brad Schwartz was forced into action just a third of an inning into the game and was solid in his appearance, going 5.2 inning while allowing just one run on three hits. Ryan Marske tossed the seventh and eighth frames, posting two scoreless innings with no hits allowed and four strikeouts.
The series finale between the RedHawks and Golden Flashes is Sunday, a 1 p.m. first pitch.
