April 9, 2017 BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Miami University's women's tennis team rounded out its weekend with a 7-0 win over conference opponent Bowling Green State University, marking Miami's 42nd win against the Falcons in all-time series history.
Miami (9-9, 4-1 MAC) played with the advantage entering the doubles competition as BG didn't have the players to play at No. 3. Sophomore Emily Struble and senior Andreea Badileanu once again secured the doubles point for the RedHawks after they topped Polina Radeva and Aymi Sasaki, 6-3 at No. 2. Junior Nelli Ponomareva and sophomore Anzhelika Shapovalova fell in their match against Paula Comella and Marharita-Sophia Tavpash, 6-4.
The RedHawks swept the singles competition with wins at first through fifth positions and then a forfeit at sixth position due to the Falcons playing down a player. Ponomareva defeated Paula Comella in straight sets, (6-4, 6-4). Shapovalova downed Marharita-Sophia Tavpash (6-4, 6-1). Junior Hannah Shteyn tallied a win at fifth position over BG's Emily Witt (6-0, 6-2).
Badileanu battled it out with Polina Radeva at No. 3. The senior-RedHawk fell in the first set, 4-6, but she came back to handily take the second set, 6-0. The match was decided in a third-set tiebreaker where Miami ultimately came out on top 10-8. Struble continued her winning streak at fourth position after defeating Ayumi Sasaki, (6-4, 6-0).
