OXFORD, Ohio - The RedHawk baseball team evened their series against Eastern Michigan with a 6-2 victory on Saturday evening in front of a large crowd at McKie FIeld at Hayden Park.
With one on in the top of the fourth, the Eagles (11-18, 3-2 MAC) drew three-straight walks to grab the game's first run and took a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the fourth, but their advantage was short-lived. Miami (8-22, 2-6) flew out twice to begin its half of the frame but an error allowed Landon Stephens to reach and keep the inning alive. Carlos Texidor doubled down the left field line to put runners on second and third before a Cal Elvers single up the middle brought both home and gave the Red & White a 2-1 lead after four.
Miami extended its margin with a single tally in the sixth. With Texidor standing on first after reaching on a fielder's choice, Elvers walked to put two on. Brooks Urich followed by bringing Texidor home on a base knock up the middle. The Red & White lead stood at 3-1 after six innings of action.
The `Hawks tacked on another insurance marker in the seventh when a two-out double by Tyler Harris allowed Adam Yacek to score from third after he reached on a triple just prior.
Miami padded its lead further with two more tallies in the eighth. A one-run double by Urich and a one-run single by Yacek had the RedHawk lead at 6-1.
The Eagles got a run in the ninth but MU held on for the 6-2 win.
Miami starter Zach Spears went 3.2 innings and allowed one run before being relieved by Brad Schwartz (W, 1-1), who went the final 5.1 frames. He also allowed just two hits and a run while striking out five.
The series comes to a close on Sunday as the teams square off at 1 p.m. with the series up for grabs.
