ATHENS, Ohio - The Miami University baseball team fell to Ohio, 3-2, in a Sunday rubber match at Bob Wren Stadium. The Bobcats capitalized and scored on two Miami errors to take the series over the Red & White.
RedHawk starter Grant Hartwig went 3.2 innings and allowed two runs on five hits while striking out three. The only other Red & White pitcher to appear was Brad Schwartz (L, 2-4), who pitched the final 4.1 innings and did not allow a hit but was tagged with the tough-luck loss as the Bobcats' final run, which was scored on an error, was charged to him.
A Miami miscue in the bottom of the third got Ohio on the board first when an overthrow on a runner taking third allowed him to come home. Then, an RBI double put the Bobcat lead at 2-0 through three frames.
The RedHawks were able to pull even in the away half of the fifth. Hayden Senger led off by reaching on a hit by pitch before being bunted over to second by Carlos Texidor. Following a Dallas Hall walk, Tyler Harris scorched a double to the gap in right, plating both Senger and Hall to knot the game at 2-2. However, another MU throwing error in the bottom half of the inning handed the advantage back to Ohio as it took a 3-2 lead.
Miami threatened down the stretch but could not get the timely hit to tie the game or pull ahead.
The Red & White return to the field Tuesday when they host Morehead State at 6 p.m. at McKie Field.
