Stephens had his best week of action to date and was a main catalyst in the RedHawks going 5-0. He hit .500 in five starts at second base for Miami. Stephens also tallied six runs scored, four doubles, one triple, nine runs batted in and his first two career home runs. The Hamilton, Ohio, native racked up four multi-hit games, two of which were three-hit performances. Moreover, Stephens struck out just twice all week and was error-free in the field.
This is the first time this season and in his career that Stephens has been named Miami's Male Athlete of the Week.
Fredericks posted another outstanding week for the RedHawks, racking up seven consecutive no-hit innings on the way to two wins and a save. On Wednesday, Fredericks entered a one-run game with one on and one out, but was able to exit the inning with Miami's lead intact. In 2.2 innings of relief work, she retired eight consecutive batters for her fourth save of the season in a 5-4 win. On Friday, she earned back-to-back wins with clutch relief work in Miami's doubleheader sweep at Kent State. In the opener, she ended a Golden Flashes rally in the fifth and then struck out all three batters in the sixth to seal a 12-4 run-rule victory. In the second matchup, she stranded two batters in both the fifth and seventh, keeping Miami in the contest and allowing them to complete a 3-2 comeback win. Finally, on Saturday, Fredericks completed her week with three relief innings, highlighted by three strikeouts. For the week, she finished 2-0 with a 0.70 ERA, only allowing two hits while striking out eight batters.
This is the first time this season and in her career that Fredericks has been named Miami's Female Athlete of the Week.
