OXFORD, Ohio - The RedHawk baseball team cruised to a 7-0 victory over Xavier on Wednesday evening at McKie Field at Hayden Park behind a big fourth inning and a couple solid performances on the mound. The win brings Miami's record to 7-16 on the season while Xavier falls to 13-12.
The Red & White pitchers had a scheduled staff day with Grant Hartwig getting the start and tossing three scoreless and hitless frames. The freshman exited having allowed zero walks and fanning one Musketeer. Gus Graham (W, 2-0) handled the next four innings, surrendering just two hits and no runs. He also struck out two. Spencer Mraz work two-thirds of the eighth and gave up no hits and walked three to go with one punch out. Andy Almquist closed things out by going the final 1.1 innings. The sophomore gave up one hit while striking out three.
Miami left the bases loaded in the third but broke through in a big way in the fourth. In total, the 'Hawks struck for six runs on five hits and one error while batting around, and the some. Dallas Hall got it going with a single up the middle before a Tyler Harris two-run blast to left center made it 2-0. Hayden Senger kept it rolling with an infield single prior to being brought home the next at bat by Landon Stephens' triple to the gap in deep left. Texidor followed by reaching on an error, which scored Stephens, and got to third after two wild pitches. Following a Brooks Urich walk, Ross Haffey singled through the right side to plate Texidor and bring the score to 5-0. After a groundout that pushed Haffey and Urich to second and third, respectively, Adam Yacek struck out but reached on a wild pitch, loading the bases. Hall, up to bat again, drew a walk to push home the sixth and final run of the frame.
The RedHawks added an insurance marker in the seventh on an RBI single by Haffey. Texidor drew a one-out walk, stole second and got moved to third on a Urich single. Haffey brought him home with a base knock to left, pushing the MU lead to 7-0.
Next up for the Red & White is their first conference road series of the season at Central Michigan. The three-game set gets underway on Friday with a 3:05 p.m. first pitch.
