Smith was excellent in his first-ever weekend start in the Red & White. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native stifled a red-hot ETSU offense on Saturday, earning his first collegiate complete game. Smith went the distance and allowed just two runs on eight hits while striking out four Buccaneers. ETSU's one through four hitters went just 2-for-15 against him.
This is the first time this season and in his career that Smith has been named Miami's Male Athlete of the Week.
Lin placed second at the NCAA Division I Swimming & Diving Championships in the three-meter dive Friday night at the Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind. Lin was seeded fourth after preliminaries earlier Friday afternoon with a score of 347.25. This earned her a place in the finals where she tallied 383.50 points. The previous night she finished seventh in the nation in the one-meter dive with a score of 296.30.
This is the third time this season and seventh time in her career that Lin has been named Miami's Female Athlete of the Week. She last won it for the week of Feb. 20-26.
The next Miami Athletes of the Week will be announced on Monday, March 27.
