HAMILTON, Ohio -- Miami University's women's tennis team put aside a tough doubles defeat to best the University of Dayton, 4-2, Wednesday evening at the Riverside Athletic Club.

In the doubles portion, senior Andreea Badileanu and sophomore Emily Struble made quick work of UD's Natalie Allen and Jackie Kawamoto, grabbing a 6-1 victory at No. 3 position.

In second-flight, junior Hannah Shteyn and sophomore Anzhelika Shapovalova rallied to tie their match at 5, but eventually fell, 7-5, to Marlys Bridgham and Alex Townsend. Finally, juniors Nelli Ponomareva and Anastasiia Vasiukhina controlled much of their No. 1 match, but were unable to pull through in the tiebreaker, falling 7-6 (4) to Mandy Marchant and Jade Kawamoto, giving Dayton the early 1-0 advantage.

In the singles round, Struble tied the match at 1 with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Allen, but the Flyers responded with a straight-sets win at No. 6 over sophomore Abby Brady. At third-flight, Badileanu once again knotted the score with a 6-2, 6-2 result against Jade Kawamoto.

At first position, Ponomareva overcame a tough first set to come back and down Bridgham, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, giving Miami's its first lead at 3-2. Soon after, Shapovalova clinched the match with a third-set comeback to top Townsend, 6-1, 2-6, 6-4. The remaining match at fifth position between Vasiukhina and Jackie Kawamoto was abandoned in the third set.

The RedHawks will return to the courts on Friday, March 24 for their Mid-American Conference opener against Northern Illinois at 1 p.m. in Oxford.
