ATHENS, Ohio - The RedHawk women's basketball team fell in a MAC East battle against Ohio on Saturday afternoon, 77-63, at the Convocation Center. The loss drops Miami's record to 10-19 (4-12 MAC) on the year while the Bobcats move to 19-8 (10-6 MAC).

Freshman Lauren Dickerson posted a team-high 20 points, her ninth game with at least 20 points this season. Also in double figures for the 'Hawks were Kendall McCoy and Leah Purvis, who contributed 11 and 10 points, respectively. Quiera Lampkins and Amani Burke led the Ohio charge with 21 points apiece.

Both teams started the game with some solid shooting from the field, but it was Miami who had the early edge as it took a 10-8 lead into the media timeout with 3:54 to go in the opening quarter. The Bobcats would capture 13 of the next 17 points to carry a 21-14 lead through one frame of play.

The second quarter was tightly played with neither side establishing much in terms of extended runs. Miami got scoring contributions from six different players, led by Dickerson's six points. Overall, the freshman had 13 points at the halfway point but the RedHawks still trailed, 42-31, after 20 minutes.

Despite the deficit, the RedHawks kept battling and were able to keep pace in the third, though the Bobcats converted on a couple more opportunities. In all, Ohio outscored Miami 21-16 in the quarter, extending its margin to 63-47 after three periods of action.

The Red & White had the better of Ohio on the scoreboard in the fourth and final quarter but the deficit was just too much to overcome. Miami finished the game shooting 43.1 percent (22-of-51) from the field while the Bobcats made 45.6 percent (26-of-57) of their attempts.

MU closes out its regular season home slate on Wednesday when it hosts Kent State at 7 p.m. The game can be seen live on ESPN3.
