FAYETTEVILLE, ARK. -- Consecutive multi-run innings thrusted the Arkansas Razorbacks past the Miami University baseball team, 11-1, on Sunday at Baum Field.
Arkansas (3-0) kicked off the scoring in the bottom of the second with a solo shot to right field. In the following frame, the Razorbacks doubled their advantage with an inside-the-park home run after a ball eluded an outstanding diving effort from freshman J.T Stone.
The RedHawks (0-3) answered in the top of the fourth by cutting the deficit in half. With one out and Landon Stephens on first, Hayden Senger singled to left and Stone worked a walk to load the bases. On a 2-2 count, Cal Elvers lifted one to left field for a base hit, scoring Stephens and narrowing the deficit to 2-1 through three and a half frames.
Arkansas pulled away with multi-run innings in the fifth, sixth and seventh. In all, they plated nine more runs to move out to an 11-1 lead.
Elvers finished the day 3-for-3 with a double and one run batted in. Freshman Grant Hartwig got the start on the mound for MU. The right-hander went 4.1 innings allowing 4 runs on five hits while striking out four.
The Red & White get back on the field this coming Friday through Saturday as they head to Tampa, Fla., to take on USF. The `Hawks and Bulls will play four games with a doubleheader scheduled for Saturday.
