OXFORD, Ohio - Powered by a huge third quarter run, the Miami University women's basketball team knocked off visiting Jacksonville State University on Saturday at Millett Hall. With the win, Miami improves to 6-3, while the Gamecocks fall to 5-3.

The RedHawks were led by senior Megan Galloway, who went 7-of-10 from the field for 15 points, while grabbing nine rebounds. Kayla Brown and Kendall McCoy each added 10 points, and Lauren Dickerson dished out eight assists to go along with 10 points of her own.

Miami got off to a hot start, jumping out to a quick 7-0 lead behind five early points from Brown. Although the Gamecocks would answer back with a few scores of their own, Dickerson would score on a strong drive to keep Miami ahead 11-7 at the five-minute mark of the first quarter. Jacksonville State would then go on a 13-3 run, and the RedHawks found themselves down 20-14 after the opening frame.

A nice dish from Dickerson to Galloway got the second quarter underway as the `Hawks looked to get back into the game. An and-one layup from Dickerson with 5:35 left cut the lead to three, but was answered by a banked-in three-pointer from the Gamecocks. A mid-range jumper from Brown then made the score 29-25 at the under-five media timeout. The RedHawks wouldn't be able to get much going the rest of the half, and went into the locker room trailing 33-28.

Galloway put Miami on the board first in the second half with a layup, and Brown buried the team's first three of the game to make the score 35-33. A baseline jumper from McCoy would then tie the game at 35-35 with five minutes remaining in the third. A great look from McCoy found a wide-open Galloway for a layup, and the RedHawks found themselves leading once again. Miami would close the quarter on an 11-2 run, and went into the fourth quarter leading 46-39. The Red and White outscored JSU 18-6 in the third period.

With 6:41 left to play in the fourth, the Gamecocks would hit a pair of free throws to cut the Miami lead to just 48-45. After a Dickerson jumper and two more JSU free throws, Galloway would score back-to-back baskets to put the RedHawks up seven and force a Jacksonville State timeout with 3:56 left in the game. Jacksonville State wouldn't go away, however, and came back with five straight points to make the score 54-52 with 2:08 remaining. Dickerson scored on a driving layup, but was quickly answered by another Gamecock basket. Miami would come up empty on their next possession, and Jacksonville State drew a foul on a layup with just 0.9 seconds left, trailing by two. The Gamecocks were only able to split the pair of free throws, and Miami sealed the 58-55 win with two free throws from Molly McDonagh.

With her performance, Dickerson has now scored in double-digits in her last 21 games, a streak that dates back to last season.

The RedHawks shot 47 percent from the floor in the contest, while limiting JSU to just 40 percent shooting.

Miami will be back in action on Tuesday, Dec. 19 when they travel to Indiana State. Their next home game will come on Thursday, Dec. 21, when the Rattlers of Florida A&M visit Millett Hall. The 7 p.m. tip will be the RedHawks' last non-conference game of the season.
