OXFORD, Ohio - Kendall McCoy poured in 18 points off the bench as the Miami women's basketball team wrapped up non-conference play with a dominant 73-33 victory over Florida A&M on Thursday night.
At 8-3, Miami enters Mid-American Conference with its most victories since the 2012-13 season, when it went 8-5 in non-conference action. The 33 points Miami allowed where its fewest since holding Chicago State to 39 points in a 55-39 victory on Nov. 16, 2013.
The Rattlers rattled off the first four points of the night before a Leah Purvis jumper got the Red and White on the board two and a half minutes in. Kayla Brown later tied things up at 4-4 on a baseline jumper after Molly McDonagh saved a loose ball from going out of play.
Tied at 8-8, Miami went on a 6-0 run thanks to a pair of McCoy jumpers and a McDonagh layup to nab a 14-8 lead with 2:50 remaining in the first quarter. MU led by as many as seven when Lauren Dickerson drained a three to make it 19-12 and the Red & White held a 19-14 lead after shooting 50 percent from the floor in the opening frame.
FAMU drew to within 19-16 early in the quarter, but a free throw by Brown along with a three by Purvis bumped the lead back to seven at 23-16 with 6:16 remaining in the half.

The RedHawks finished up by outscoring the Rattlers 18-10 in the fourth quarter to wrap up the 40-point victory. Holding FAMU to 33 points was the first time the Red & White have allowed fewer than 40 points since they yielded just 39 against Chicago State on Nov. 16, 2013.
