The teams swapped makes over the first few minutes with the score standing at 7-7 with 3:48 gone by. Indiana State seized control the rest of the quarter, scoring 10 of the final 13 points in the frame. Through 10 minutes of action, the Sycamores led, 17-10.
Trailing by a game-high eight points at 21-13 with 8:09 to go in the first half, Miami started climbing back in it courtesy of a jumper and a three-pointer by Dickerson. After a Sycamore bucket, Dickerson hit another triple to cut the deficit to just two at 23-21 at the 3:50 mark. Following another ISU make, the RedHawks tallied six of the next eight points, the final two a Molly McDonagh layup that evened the contest at 27-all with just over two minutes left in the quarter. Back-to-back jumpers quickly put the Sycamores ahead by four but a Kayla Brown conversion from downtown made it 31-30 with under a minute to play in the half. An Indiana State field goal with 30 seconds to go put the Sycamores up 33-30 as the teams entered the locker room.

Megan Galloway kicked off the second half with a quick score to put MU within one, but six straight ISU points suddenly restored a seven-point lead for the Sycamores. The RedHawks answered with the next seven points, knotting the game at 39 apiece with 5:43 to go in the period. Almost exactly two minutes later the game was still tied, this time at 43-all, before a Reid free throw put Miami in front 44-43, its first lead since the opening bucket of the night. However, following a Purvis three-pointer, a pair of free throws and a jumper for the Sycamores had the contest deadlocked at 47 through three quarters.
AND ONE! Reid takes the contact and scores. She hits at the FT line too, giving Miami a 44-43 advantage with under four minutes left in the third.
