LOS ANGELES - The Miami University women's basketball team closed the Loyola Marymount Thanksgiving Classic with a 69-52 win over Denver on Saturday.
Lauren Dickerson flirted with a triple-double by going for 14 points, nine assists and seven rebounds. Leah Purvis poured in a game-high 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including 5-of-6 from long range. Megan Galloway also scored in double figures, for the second time in three games, with 11 points. Miami finished the game shooting 44.8 percent from the floor. Denver's Samantha Romanowski led the Pioneer effort with 10 points. As a team, DU shot 33.3 percent from the field.
"I was really proud of our team's effort and determination tonight," said head coach Megan Duffy. "We had a great, balanced attack on the offensive end. It was really important for us to bounce back from the LMU game yesterday by putting together a better 40 minutes, start to finish. We did a nice job of guarding the three-point line and limiting Denver's open shots from the perimeter."
The Red & White grabbed an early 6-2 lead behind baskets from Dickerson and Molly McDonagh, as well as a pair of free throws by Galloway. Denver fired back and scored the next four points to knot things up at 6-all with just 3:05 off of the clock. Neither side did much to separate themselves but buckets from Dickerson, Savannah Kluesner and Purvis had Miami up 13-11 after 10 minutes played.

After hitting a triple with under 15 seconds to go in the opening quarter, Purvis began the scoring in the second with another make from long range. Back-to-back layups by Kelly McLaughlin, the later of which became a three-point play after a foul, and a Kendall McCoy layup had MU's lead at 23-11. After trading makes from deep, the Pioneers scored six-straight points to get back within six at 26-20 with 4:25 still to go in the half. The RedHawks outscored DU, 7-4, in the final minutes before the break and had a 33-24 margin at the halfway point.

The Pioneers scored the first bucket out of the half but Miami would answer by scoring eight of the game's next 10 points to extend their lead to a then-game high 13 at 41-28 at the 1:56 mark. The Red & White went cold from the field and did not muster a basket the final 8:04 of the frame. However, five free throws staved off any extended DU runs and MU still owned a 46-38 advantage through 30 minutes.
The RedHawks began the fourth on a tear, scoring the first eight points of the frame. Six different players would score for MU in the period as they closed the game out with authority.
Dickerson finds Galloway underneath for 2! Dickerson now with 14 points, 7 assists and 7 rebounds.
