WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Miami University women's basketball team hung tough in its first road test of the season, but ultimately fell to Purdue, 75-66, Wednesday evening at Mackey Arena.

"We knew coming into the game we had to bring a toughness and intensity for 40 minutes," said head coach Megan Duffy. "I thought our team battled and turned up the pressure in the second half. Give credit to Purdue for getting touches for [Ae'Rianna] Harris inside."

For the second time in as many games, sophomore guard Lauren Dickerson eclipsed the 20-point mark and paced the RedHawks in scoring, this time going for 22 points. She also recorded seven assists. Kendall McCoy added 16 points while Savannah Kluesner chipped in 12 points. Miami finished the evening shooting 42.2 percent (27-of-64) from the floor while Purdue shot 50.8 percent (33-of-65) from the field.

The two sides were neck-and-neck from the outset with the score at 6-all when they reached the first media timeout at the 5:01 mark. That trend changed little in the back half of the first ten minutes. Miami moved out to the biggest lead of the frame for either side when back-to-back buckets by Molly McDonagh and McCoy made it 14-10 RedHawks. However, the Boilermakers claimed the final five points of the period to take a 15-14 advantage after one.

The battle carried over to the second quarter as there were five lead changes before the teams could reach the media timeout. After field goals by McCoy, Leah Purvis and Dickerson, Miami was back in front at 23-22 with 6:50 to play in the half. The Boilermakers took control in the waning moments before the break, finishing on a 8-0 run and hitting their final six field goal attempts. Purdue's hot streak coincided with a Miami cold streak as the `Hawks were kept off of the scoreboard the final 2:58 of the half. The Boilermakers took a 39-26 lead into the locker room.

Miami narrowed its deficit early on in the third courtesy of Dickerson, who scored Miami's first nine points of the frame. Then, a McCoy triple brought the `Hawks back to within single digits at 47-38, forcing a Purdue timeout with 5:42 to go in the period. Dickerson's hot hand resulted in 12 third-quarter points but the Red & White trailed by 11 through 30 minutes.

Purdue created some cushion with six points in the first minute of the fourth, but a triple by Dickerson and a layup by McCoy got MU back to within 10 at 60-50. Miami held tough the rest of the way and stayed within striking distance. However, the Boilermakers were able to fend off any extended RedHawk runs as they came away with a 75-66 victory.

Miami is back in action this Saturday as it takes on Cincinnati at 2 p.m.The game will be held at Saint Ursula Academy due to renovations at Fifth Third Arena.
