BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Miami soccer team played a gritty road match that wore on into overtime, but a Buffalo goal in the 95th minute sent the RedHawks to a 1-0 loss on Sunday afternoon.

Sunday's setback officially eliminates Miami (2-14-1, 2-7-1 Mid-American) from qualifying for next week's MAC Tournament.

"We defended like stars for 94 minutes today," Interim Head Coach Hugh Seyfarth said. "That gave us a chance to win it on a couple chances in the second half, but we were unable to convert."

Buffalo possessed the ball past midfield for large portions of the first half and generated one close range chance when Julia Benati was played in, but Patricia Koutoulas came out and made a point-blank save to keep the UB off the board. The Bulls finished the first half with a 9-2 advantage in shots, but the match remained scoreless after 45 minutes of play.

The Bulls continued pressing the attack in the second half, outshooting the RedHawks by a 16-3 margin. Despite the pressure, Miami was able to keep Buffalo to the outside for the most part and kept the contest scoreless through 90 minutes of play.

After MU fended off an early corner kick in overtime, UB found the net 4:10 into the extra session when Moira Petrie was played in on the right side and placed a shot that went in off the far post to give Buffalo the win.

Buffalo ended up with a 26-5 shot advantage and edged Miami 10-0 in corner kicks. Koutoulas was strong in goal, making eight saves for the Red and White while Laura Dougall had a three-save shutout for the Bulls.

Miami returns home to close out the 2017 season against Ball State on Thursday. Opening kick is at 3 p.m.
