Hockey
Last Week: Miami (8-10-6, 4-6-4-2 NCHC) went winless over a weekend trip to Omaha. The RedHawks fell behind 2-0 midway through the first period of Friday's series opener as the Mavericks scored twice in 59 seconds. MU roared back as Louie Belpedio blasted in a power play goal in the first before Willie Knierim tied things before the second intermission. Carson Meyer gave Miami its first lead of the night 21 seconds into the third, but UNO rallied to force overtime in an eventual 3-3 tie before Scott Dornbrock scored during 3-on-3 overtime to give Miami two points (RECAP). On Saturday, Omaha killed off every Miami power play and scored a power play goal and shorthanded goal while blanking Miami despite its 30 shots, topping the Red and White 2-0 (RECAP). This Week: The Red and White return home to host Western Michigan in a critical NCHC series. Friday's series opener is nationally televised on CBS Sports Network and begins at 7 p.m.
Track & Field
Last Week: Miami traveled to Indiana for the Gladstein Invitational and put up some strong performances over the two days. Alexus Jimson-Miller highlighted the RedHawks' day one effort, winning the 60m hurdles by clocking the MAC's fastest time at 8.47 (RECAP). The weekend ended with a strong performance from shot put throwers Amelia Strickler and Arionna Darling, who finished second (53-3.75) and third (51-6.25) in the event, respectively. This Week: The RedHawks return to Bloomington for the Indiana Relays. The two-day meet runs on Friday and Saturday.
Men's Basketball
Last Week: Miami (8-11 overall, 1-5 MAC) fell in a pair of MAC road games last week. The RedHawks fell just short in a defensive battle as Northern Illinois took a 62-58 victory Tuesday evening. (RECAP) Miami had its highest scoring output of the season, but Central Michigan was able to drain 20 three-pointers, while its star guard Marcus Keene finished with 50 points to lead the Chippewas to a 101-92 win over the RedHawks on Saturday. (RECAP) This Week: The RedHawks return home for two games this week. Miami welcomes Buffalo to Millett Hall on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The Red and White then host Eastern Michigan on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. Both games will air live on ESPN3.
Women's Basketball
Last Week: The RedHawks (7-13, 1-6 MAC) hit the road for two cross-divisional matchups beginning with a Wednesday contest at Central Michigan. Miami was in it early but extended scoring runs from the Chippewas was too much to handle as CMU grabbed the win, 80-61 (RECAP). Despite scoring a season-high 76 points at NIU on Saturday, the RedHawks fell to the Huskies, 89-76. Lauren Dickerson posted 26 points while Kendall McCoy tallied Miami's first double-double of the year with 12 points and 10 rebounds (RECAP) This Week: The team gets back in action on Saturday when they host Ohio at 1 p.m. It is Alumnae Weekend for women's basketball with special recognition set to be given to the 1981-82 and 1982-83 MAC Championship teams at halftime. The game is available to be streamed live on ESPN3.
Synchronized Skating
This Week: The senior team returned from its extended time off by heading to the Mozart Cup in Salzburg, Austria, this past Friday and Saturday. The first day saw them earn a second place finish in the short program with a total segment score of 52.22 (RECAP). For Saturday's free skate program, the team earned another second place finish, also securing a second place finish overall to give them their second-straight silver medal at the event (RECAP). This Week: The junior and collegiate teams will be heading to Grand Forks, N.D. to compete in the Midwestern Championships on Friday and Saturday.
