OXFORD, Ohio -- Miami University women's swimming and diving team competed against Akron on Friday afternoon. They ended up dropping the meet to the Zips, 176.5-123.5.
Freshman Claire Doerr won her first individual collegiate meet of the season in the 500-yard freestyle. She clocked in at 5:04.57, over a second and a half faster than Akron's second-place swimmer (5:06.24).
Pei Lin swept the diving events once again, nearly breaking her own MAC and Miami record in the three-meter dive. In that event she scored 413.85 and in the one-meter she scored 333.07.
Emma Bradley won the 1000-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 10:17.01. The second-place finisher from Akron clocked in over four seconds later (10:21.90). Shay Spelman finished the race in third with a time of 10:22.99.
The duo of Stephanie LeMire and Schuster finished in second and third places, respectively in the 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard breaststroke. In the 100, LeMire clocked in at 1:03.67 and Schuster in 1:04.61. For the 200, LeMire finished in 2:17.55 and Schuster in 2:18.40. Schuster won her own event in the 400-yard IM, clocking in at 4:25.73.
Izzy Herb placed second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:01.35) and third in the 100-yard backstroke (56.10).
Peyton Mosbaugh took silver in the 100-yard butterfly, touching the wall in 56.00. She narrowly beat out Ragen Engel, who clocked in at 56.35.
The RedHawks had a few third-place finishes as well. Ella Moynihan picked one up for herself in the 200-yard freestyle (1:51.28). Becca Knapper clocked in at 2:06.20 in the 200-yard butterfly. Elise Campbell finished the 100-yard freestyle in 52.58.
The women ended the meet with a second-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay, led by the team of Campbell, Abby Stone, Moynihan and Grace Van Fossen (3:31.84).
Miami's men will be in action on Saturday against Buffalo at the Nixon Aquatic Center at noon. The women will next compete at Toledo on Sunday at 1 p.m.
