Jan. 15, 2017 OAK LAWN, Ill. – The Miami University junior and collegiate synchronized skating teams fared well at Synchro Illinois on Saturday evening.
The collegiate team captured a first-place finish in the collegiate division free skate, earning a total score of 70.62. Finishing second was Western Michigan with a score of 56.48. Rounding out the group was the University of Illinois, whose score of 51.47 earned it a third-place result.
The junior team did not go up against any other teams but got two opportunities to perform. In the short program, they had one fall and totaled a score of 38.65. In the free skate, the team racked up a total score of 68.06 despite a couple of falls.
Both teams return to competition at the Midwestern Championship, which is set for Jan. 26-27, in Grand Forks, N.D. Next up amongst all three synchro squads is the senior team, who heads to Salzburg, Austria, this coming week for the Mozart Cup. The competition is slated to run from Thursday, Jan. 19, to Saturday, Jan. 21.
