TOLEDO, OHIO - The Miami University golf team finished 12th at the Inverness Intercollegiate. The RedHawks shot a seven-over par 277 in the third and final round to finish at 890 or 51- over par on the tournament. Auburn won the event at nine- under par.
Miami Head coach Zac Zedrick believes the team looked better in the final round of the tournament by playing with confidence and enthusiasm.
"Overall everyone was better, we had three pretty good scores, but we needed a fourth to have a really good round," said Zedrick. "We definitely looked more like what our team should look like today."
Miami's top finisher was Patrick Flavin. The junior showed improvement in the final round, finishing with six birdies en route to a round of 70. Flavin shot 215 to end the tournament at two- over par and solidify a 16th place finish.
"Today definitely was a 66 or 67 kind of day that turned into 70, but overall it represented in a lot of ways what the mentality needs to be by everyone," said Zedrick. "There are going to be some good stretches and there are going to be some bad stretches, but you have to find a way to get it done. I think Pat did a good job of that this week".
Redshirt sophomore Brian Ohr also showed some Tuesday improvement, shooting a two-over par 73 in the final round of the tournament to end at a 223 total or 10- over par. Ohr tied for 44th place.
"What was impressive about Brian is that he started his first round with a triple bogey and started on the fifth hole, which is the middle of the hardest stretch of holes on the golf course," said Zedrick. "I thought he did a great job keeping it light, staying in the moment and not letting what could have been a disastrous day just get away from him."
Senior Greg Conrad had the best round of the day for Miami, shooting a two-under par 69. He finished tied for 53rd place overall at 14-over par.
Rounding out the rest of the RedHawks, freshman Callahan Elzey and Joshua Cushing finished neck-and-neck. Elzey finished in 76th place at 241 or 28- over par. Cushing finished in 77th place, shooting a 250 at 37- over par. Playing as an individual, freshman Cam Solomon shot 237 to end at 24- over par and finish the tournament in 73rd place.
The RedHawks are in action again Sept. 30-Oct. 1 at the Golfweek Conference Challenge in Burlington, Iowa.
