BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Miami University softball team opened up its final regular season series of the season successfully with a 6-1 victory over Buffalo on Friday. The RedHawks improve to 28-21 on the season and 13-7 in the Mid-American Conference. They remain only a game behind Kent State (15-7) for the MAC regular season crown. The Bulls fall to 17-35 overall and 9-12 in the MAC.

Senior pitcher Amber Logemann kept the Buffalo bats quiet with another solid performance. She allowed only a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth among three total hits. She struck out nine in earning her 18th victory of the season.

In the top of the second, junior designated player Lauren Anderson led off with a double down the leftfield line. After two outs were recorded, freshman shortstop Michaela Schlattman hit a single to leftfield to bring Anderson home and give Miami a 1-0 lead.

The RedHawks increased their advantage with three runs in the top of the third. Sophomore outfielder Kaitlyn Gliha led off with her third home run of the year over the right field wall. Senior outfielder Hailey Reed drew a walk and was replaced by a pinch-runner, freshman Chloe Melanson. Melanson stole second and scored when Anderson drove a single to leftfield. Senior Tanya Busby replaced Anderson at first base as a pinch-runner. A sacrifice bunt by sophomore catcher Rylee Whispel moved Busby up to second, while a groundout moved her up to third. A fielding error by the Buffalo shortstop allowed Busby to score and give the Red and White a 4-0 lead.

After the Bulls scored their only run in the bottom of the fifth, Miami put the game away with two runs in the top of the seventh. With one out, Anderson singled up the middle and was replaced by a pinch-runner, freshman Anna Geary. Whispel sent a grounder to short on the next play. Buffalo committed both a fielding and a throwing error on it, allowing Geary to score and Whispel to advance to second. Freshman Hannah Girlie pinch ran for Whispel. One batter later, Schlattman doubled to centerfield to score Girlie and complete the scoring.

Anderson finished the game 3-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored. Schlattman was 2-for-5 with two RBIs.

The RedHawks complete the regular season on Saturday when they face Buffalo in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
