OXFORD, Ohio - A late surge by Western Michigan proved to be the difference as Miami fell, 5-3, Friday evening at McKie Field. With the loss, the Red & White drop to 21-23 (10-6 MAC) on the year. Due to potential inclement weather, Saturday's game has been moved up to 3 p.m.

The Broncos jumped out to an early lead, striking for two runs in the top of the first. Western Michigan capitalized on an MU error to score its first run. Then, a fielder's choice with a runner on third allowed them to take a 2-0 lead after just a half an inning.

With runners on first and second and two out, Miami got on the board in the bottom of the second. A Hayden Senger single up the middle scored Tyler Harris, who had reached previosuly on a one-out double. After two innings of play, the score was 2-1 in favor of the Broncos.

In the bottom of the third, the RedHawks took the lead on Gary Russo's 15th home run of the season, a two-run blast over the left field wall. Steve Sada, who was the MU runner on base, had reached on a leadoff walk. Through three innings of play, Miami had a 3-2 advantage.

The Broncos would go on to score single runs in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings as they were able to close the 'Hawks out.

Miami starting pitcher Gus Graham had a good outing, tossing six innings of two-run ball. The sophomore walked three while striking out five.

As mentioned, Saturday's game has been moved up to 3 p.m. It is Youth Day at McKie Field, where kids will have the opportunity to get autographs from the players and run the bases at the conclusion of the contest.
