MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - The Miami University baseball team was on the short end of a pitchers' duel Sunday as it fell, 3-1, to Central Michigan. The loss puts the Red & White's record at 23-26 (12-9 MAC) on the season.

The Chippewas moved out to the contest's first lead in the bottom of the fourth. With a runner on third, a blooper to shallow right field made its way to the ground and CMU was able to plate one. After four, the Chippewas had a slim 1-0 edge.

Miami answered in the top half of the fifth. Spencer Dull led off the frame by doubling to left field and made it to third after a passed ball the next at bat. After an out, Dallas Hall put down a successful suicide squeeze as Dull was running home the whole way. The score was even at one apiece after four and a half innings of play.

In the bottom of the seventh, with two runners on and two outs recorded, a CMU triple to the right center gap broke the stalemate. Through seven, the Chippewas held a 3-1 lead.

Miami starting pitcher Zach Spears was stellar despite being stuck with the loss. The left-hander tossed 6.2 innings and allowed three runs on just five hits. He also struck out six. In relief, Ryan Marske pitched 1.1 innings, allowing no runs and no hits while fanning two.

The RedHawks get back on the field on Tuesday for their final home game of the season. The team is slated to take on Xavier at 6 p.m. It will be Walter "Smokey" Alston Day at McKie Field.
