Women's Tennis
Last Week: With a pair of road victories, Miami (12-9, 7-1 MAC) clinched a share of the MAC regular-season title, its eighth-consecutive and 23rd overall. On Friday, the RedHawks picked up their first shutout of the conference season with a 7-0 victory at Northern Illinois, prevailing in straight-sets in all singles matches. (Recap) Miami extended the winning streak to seven-straight with Sunday's title-sealing 5-2 decision at Western Michigan. Sophomores Nelli Ponomareva and Anastasiia Vasiukhina finished unbeaten in MAC doubles play as they grabbed the opening point with a 7-5 victory. (Recap) Four singles victories, including a three-set comeback from junior Andreea Badileanu and sophomore Hannah Shteyn's third-consecutive No. 1 win, helped secure a bye in next weekend's MAC Women's Tennis Championship. Freshman Emily Struble's 6-1, 6-3 victory completed a 28-8 rookie campaign, tying her with Badileanu's program record for both the most singles victories in a season and most in a freshman season. This Week: Miami hosts the MAC Women's Tennis Championship on Friday, April 29 through Sunday, May 1 at the Hepburn Varsity Tennis Courts. The RedHawks are seeded No. 2 in the field and will face the winner of Friday's Western Michigan-Toledo match Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. for a spot in Sunday's final. In the case of inclement weather, matches will be moved to the Riverside Athletic Club in Hamilton.
Golf
Last Week: Miami was idle. This Week: The RedHawks attempt to defend their title at the MAC Championship April 28-30 at the Highland Meadows Golf Club in Sylvania, Ohio. The 72-hole tournament features 36 holes on Thursday, and single rounds of 18 holes on Friday and Saturday.
Softball
Last Week: Miami (26-19 overall, 11-5 MAC) had a tough week, finishing 1-4. However the victory was head coach Clarisa Crowell's 100th at Miami. The RedHawks dropped a doubleheader to Eastern Kentucky on Tuesday. The Colonels took the opener, 5-3, and earned an 8-2 victory in the nightcap. (Recap) Down to its last out and staring down a perfect game being thrown against them, Miami nearly rallied back, but ultimately fell, 2-1, to Ohio on Friday. (Recap) The RedHawks split a pair of hard-fought pitching duels against Ohio on Senior Day Saturday. The Bobcats took a 2-1 victory in the opener, while the RedHawks returned the favor with a 2-1 win in the nightcap. (Recap) This Week: Miami hits the road for a three game series at Akron this weekend. The teams will play a single game on Friday at 3 p.m. and a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
Synchronized Skating
This Week: All three Miami University synchronized skating teams will perform at the annual Goggin Ice Show this weekend themed Broadway on Ice. Performances are 7 p.m. on Friday, Apri. 29 and 3 p.m. on Saturday, Apri. 30. (Goggin Ice Center Website)
Track and Field
Last Week: The RedHawks split the team in three and took on the Jesse Owens Classic, The Virginia Challenge and the Stanford Twilight. At the Stanford Twilight, Joe Stewart took on the 5000m for the Red and White, posting a time of 14:04.40 for eighth place overall in a field packed with some of the nation's best. The 1500m featured Miami's Andrew Dusing and Laura Bess. Dusing turned in a time of 3:46.08 for 16th overall in a field packed with talented collegiate and post-collegiate athletes. Bess clocked in at 4:27.17 for 21st overall moving her to fourth in the conference this year. At the Jesse Owens Classic, Andrew Vollet was runner up in the open section of the shot put marking a personal best 55-0.75 to kick off the weekend. Alesha Vovk was second in the 3000m steeplechase clocking in at 10:33.64. Giving her the third-fastest steeplechase time in the Mid-American Conference this season. The men's race featured a MAC showdown where a new top-three times were run. Zach McBride was fourth overall clocking in at 9:10.72 for the fourth-fastest time in the conference. In the championship section of the women's 5000m, Brenna Poulsen finished seventh with a time of 17:04.16 for a 30 second personal best and an automatic qualification to the MAC Championships. At the Virginia Challenge, Arionna Darling marked 51-0.25 in the talent packed showcase section of the women's shot put finishing fifth (Friday Recap) (Stanford Twilight Recap) (Saturday Recap). This Week: The Red and White will be back in action at the George Rider Track Complex for the RedHawk Invitational on Saturday.
Baseball
Last week: The RedHawks (20-19, 9-3 MAC) went 1-3 on the week. Miami kicked things off by travelling to Butler and winning their fourth-straight in a 10-3 decision over the Bulldogs (Recap). This past weekend, the Red & White made the trip to face off with a tough Pitt team. The two teams played a doubleheader on Saturday after inclement weather on Friday forced schedule changes. The Panthers took both games of the doubleheader, winning game one by a score of 5-0 while game two was much more tight as UP escaped with a 4-3 victory (DH Recap). Sunday's series finale saw several lead changes but it was Pitt who got the most timely hit with a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth (Recap). This week: Miami gets ready for another week of four games as they travel to Kentucky on Wednesday. That contest is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. and will be broadcasted on SEC Network+. Then, the 'Hawks head up to Kent State for a crucial MAC East series with the Golden Flashes.
