RedHawks Drop Doubleheader at Pitt

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Miami University baseball team dropped both games of their doubleheader at Pitt Saturday. In game one, the RedHawks fell, 5-0. In the back half of the doubleheader, MU showed more fight but dropped a tough 4-3 decision. Following Saturday's contests, the Red & White sit at 20-18 (9-3 MAC) on the year.
Game One Recap
Pitt got on the board first in the top of the third. A fielder's choice gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead after three innings of play.
The Panthers extended their advantage in the home half of the sixth on back-to-back doubles to right. Through six frames, Pitt had a 3-0 edge.
Pitt tacked on another pair of runs in the seventh. A wild pitch and a sac fly gave UP a 5-0 lead through seven.
Miami starting pitcher Gus Graham went six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits.
Game Two Recap
The Panthers jumped out to the game's first lead in the bottom of the first. A double and an error allowed Pitt to plate two. However, the RedHawks were able to respond in the top half of the second. After a one-out walk was issued to Steve Sada, Tyler Harris cranked one to opposite field for his fifth home run of the season. Through one and a half, the score was knotted at two apiece.
Miami captured their first lead of the day in the top half of the fourth. Ross Haffey started off the frame with a single to right. Then, after a flyout, Sada ripped a single to right, scoring Haffey. Through three and a half, the 'Hawks had a 3-2 lead.
Pitt re-captured the lead in the home half of the sixth. With runners on first and second, a triple to the gap in left scored two to make it 4-3 in favor of the Panthers.
The RedHawks' starting pitcher, Cole Gnetz, went 5.1 innings, allowing three runs on five hits.
The two teams go back at it on Sunday for the series finale. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
