RedHawk Divers Travel to Zone Competition

OXFORD, Ohio - Two divers will travel to compete in the NCAA Zone C Diving Championship at Purdue's Boilermaker Aquatic Center in West Lafayette, Ind. Freshman Harrison Moncino and junior Sean Sargent will be representing the RedHawks this weekend. The three-day competition kicks off on Thursday, Mar. 10 and concludes on Saturday, Mar. 12.
The two divers were admitted into the competition based on several qualifying finishes over the course of this season.
To be make the cut, divers must turn in a qualifying point total in any six dive list with standard degree of difficulty. The standard in the one-meter event is 300 points and the three-meter qualifying standard set at 320 points.
The NCAA Zone C Diving Championships are just one of five such events taking place across the country. Each one is allotted qualifying births to the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, which kick off later this month. The finals in each event are comprised of the top 18 finishers in the preliminary rounds. A pre-determined number of divers based on their finish in each event will continue on to the NCAAs.
There are 23 other schools with at least one diver competing including Ball State, Cincinnati, Eastern Michigan, Kentucky, Ohio State and Southern Illinois.
Preliminaries are set to begin on Thursday at 1 p.m. with the men's three-meter competition. Live results will be posted here.
