OXFORD, Ohio -- The Miami University softball team got its home Miami Invitational off to a successful start with a 7-2 victory over Dayton on Friday. The RedHawks improve to 6-5 on the season, while the Flyers fall to 7-6.

Senior pitcher Amber Logemann earned her third victory of the season with five shutout innings. She allowed only two hits and struck out nine.

Miami got on the board with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Freshman shortstop Michaela Schlattman reached second base on a fielding error by the Dayton shortstop. After a groundout advanced her to third, senior outfielder Taylor Shuey hit a single to leftfield to score Schlattman and give the `Hawks a 1-0 lead.

Schlattman then made it 2-0 in the bottom of the third with a solo shot over the centerfield wall. It was her fourth home run of the season.

Senior first baseman Hailey Reed provided the next four runs for Miami. She scored off a wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth. In the bottom of the fifth with two runners on, she blasted a ball over the leftfield wall for her second home run of the season to give the RedHawks a 6-0 advantage.

Dayton got one back in the top of the sixth inning, but Miami completed its scoring in the bottom half of the frame when sophomore right fielder Kaitlyn Gliha singled home senior second baseman Eryn McCarver.

The Flyers scored one more time in the top of the seventh, but junior pitcher Kelsey Fredericks recorded the final out to secure the 7-2 win.
