RedHawks Break Two School Records

YPSILANTI, Mich. - Two new records were set in the 100-yard backstroke and the 200-yard freestyle on day three of the Mid-American Conference Championships, Friday, Mar. 4, at Eastern Michigan University's Jones Natatorium. Miami ended the day in fifth place with a total of 308 points.
Junior Lucas Brock set the record in the 200-yard freestyle with his time of 1:37.69. Brock broke the record of 1:37.98 set by Ross Halloran back in 1996. Brock and Halloran previously shared the record until today.
Senior Jacob Prodoehl broke the 100-yard backstroke record that was set by senior Davis Staley (48.96) back in 2014. Prodoehl knocked two-tenths of a second off of Staley's time, touching the wall at 48.76, earning him the third place spot on the podium. Freshman Jake Precious was the next nearest RedHawk in tenth place.
Breaststroke specialist Evan Bader and sophomore Thomas Blackstone claimed spots on the podium in the 100-yard breaststroke, both turning in NCAA B-Cut times. Bader took sixth with his time of 54.93 with Blackstone following in eighth, clocking a time of 55.08.
Miami had top finishes in other events including the 100-yard butterfly. Sophomore Peter Simcox claimed eighth place, turning in a time of 49.16. Freshman Robert Newman followed close behind in 12th.
Sophomore Ross Rybakowicz was the top finishing RedHawk in the 400-yard IM, collecting 11th place with his time of 3:56.39.
The RedHawks took fifth in the final event of the evening, the 400-yard medley relay. Prodoehl, Simcox, Blackstone and junior Jack Strauss swam to a combined team time of 3:17.48.
Miami returns tomorrow for day four, beginning with prelims at 11 a.m. and concluding with finals at 7 p.m.
