MOREHEAD, Ky. - A quick start offensively for Morehead State proved too much to overcome as Miami fell, 17-3, Tuesday evening at Allen Field. The loss drops the RedHawks' record to 9-13 on the year, while the Eagles improve to 15-9.
The Eagles jumped on the RedHawks early. In the bottom of the first, MSU plated three runs on a solo homer and a two-run single through the right side. In their next at bat, they plated three more on back-to-back doubles. After two, Morehead State held a 6-0 lead.
Morehead State exploded for seven runs in the fourth, scoring on an error, a bases loaded walk, a one-run single, a two-run double and a groundout. After four, the Eagles were leading 13-0.
Miami showed some life in the top of the sixth when Chad Sedio ripped a ball over the right field wall for eight home run of the season. The two-run shot cut the MSU lead to 13-2.
The Red & White got on the board again in the top of the eighth. Ross Haffey led off the inning with a double to right, which was followed by another double by Gary Russo. Haffey scored on the play, cutting the Eagles' lead to 13-3. Morehead State countered with four in their half of the eighth to make it 17-3.
Miami gets back in action on Wednesday as they host Dayton. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. Free hats will be distributed to every fan in attendance.
