OXFORD, Ohio -- The Miami University softball team split a doubleheader against Wright State on Tuesday. The RedHawks took the opener, 4-2. Miami saw its eight-game winning streak come to an end in the nightcap, however, as the Raiders earned an 8-2 victory. The RedHawks are now 18-12 on the season. Wright State is 16-14.

The Raiders hit a solo home run in the top of the first of the opener off Miami senior Amber Logemann to take an early 1-0 lead. The Red and White fought right back in the bottom half of the inning when freshman shortstop Michaela Schlattman led off with a double. One batter later, senior outfielder Taylor Shuey singled to leftfield to move her over to third. A sacrifice fly by freshman first baseman Johniann Wahl brought Schlattman home and tied the score at one.

With one out in the bottom of the second, sophomore third baseman Kat Lee singled up the middle. Sophomore catcher Rylee Whispel followed with a walk. After Wright State recorded the second out of the frame, Schlattman blasted her eighth home run of the year, a three-run shot over the centerfield wall that gave the RedHawks a 4-1 lead.

That would be all Logemann needed as she did not allow the Raiders another run. She finished allowing only that one earned run on two hits in 5.0 innings pitched. She struck out five.

Junior pitcher Kelsey Fredericks came in for relief over the final two innings. A fielding error in the top of the seventh, followed by a double and a sacrifice fly scored a run for Wright State, but Fredericks got a pair of groundouts to finish off the 4-2 win and earn her first career save.

Schlattman finished the opener 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Lee was 1-for-3 with one run scored.

Wright State struck first in the nightcap, scoring three runs off three hits in the top of the second. Wahl led off the bottom half of the frame with a double. One batter later, senior outfielder Hailey Reed hit a double of her own to score Wahl and cut the deficit to 3-1.

The Raiders broke the game open with four runs in the top of the fifth. Wahl was able to score off a hit by junior catcher Lauren Anderson in the bottom of the sixth, but Wright State went on to take an 8-2 win.

Wahl finished the nightcap 1-for-1 with two walks and two runs scored. Reed, Schlattman and junior outfielder Jenna Jones also had hits for Miami.

The RedHawks return to Mid-American Conference play when they travel to Toledo for a three-game series this weekend. The teams will play a single game on Friday beginning at 3 p.m. They will then face of in a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
