OXFORD, Ohio -- For their performances last week sophomore golfer Patrick Flavin and junior track and field shot put thrower Arionna Darling are Miami's Athletes of the Week for the week of March 21-27.
Flavin had a big week that included winning his second individual title of the season. He shot 70-66-69 to finish at eight under at the FAU Slomin Autism Invitational to earn co-medalist honors with two other golfers. His five-under 66 in the second round set a new career low. Flavin also was Miami's top finisher at the Lone Star Invitational earlier in the week. He shot rounds of 72-76-73 and finished at five-over par. He tied for 11th at the tournament.
This is the third time this season and fourth time in his career that Flavin has been named Miami's Male Athlete of the Week. He last won it for the week of March 7-13.
In her first competition of the 2016 outdoor season, Darling marked 50-4 in the shot put to pick up her fist collegiate win. Darling's throw gives her the top distance in the Mid-American Conference and an automatic qualification to the MAC Championships. Nationally, Darling's ranks 14th in the NCAA East Region and 37th across all of NCAA Division I. Her throw also sits third on Miami's all-time top-10 list.
This is the second time this season and in her career that Darling has been named Miami's Female Athlete of the Week. She last won it for the week of Feb. 1-7.
The next Miami Athletes of the Week will be announced Monday, April 4.
